BLACK SNOW | MBALI | 2017
If I ever had to Describe Black snow with a single image it would be this one. This is the first Black snow sketch I drew even before I knew what to call it, it was the template and standard for every other painting that would come before it.
The idea was very simple, remember when we were kids and our moms had perms, those step 1 hairstyles? and then the camera man would come by so they could take those photographs with those awkward poses? there was a certain atmosphere, grace and sincerity about it, especially when you go back and look at those photos, I wanted to capture that with a bit of a modern finish. I had been repainting this over and over for as long as I could remember. When my painting improved I gave it a fresh new coat, printed and sold it this year when I was selected to be part of the 2017 Design Indaba Emerging Creatives Programme.
